Meet Jackie (updated September 2022)

 

Hi neighbors, I’m Jackie Craig. Many know me as a volunteer, a board member, a nonprofit leader, and an education advocate. I am connected with many of our wonderful community members and I look forward to the opportunity to meet many more of my neighbors. It brings me joy to introduce my family to you. My husband is a marketer and business executive whose passion is growing businesses, developing people, and serving other businesses with products and services that enable them to succeed. Our two children have attended Lakeville Area Public Schools from infancy, in Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) programs, through high school. Our nephews joined our household after their parents' lives were taken in an automobile accident in 2019. Like you, we chose this wonderful community to raise our family.

Our oldest graduated from Lakeville North High School in spring of 2022. She is now enrolled at Marquette University in the Diederich College of Communication. Our youngest just entered his freshman year at North and has been enjoying his classes, as well as playing goalie for the 10A soccer team. Our older nephew graduated from Carleton College and is now married to a fabulous woman. They recently purchased a home in the Twin Cities. Our youngest nephew will graduate from University of Northwestern this school year and looks forward to studying abroad. Our family is appreciative of opportunities we have received living in our community and recognize that when we work together we can do even better. That is why we are engaging neighbors to create a welcoming campaign centered on residents collaborating to build a safe, supported, and healthy community. 

 

A safe, supported, and healthy community is one where people are engaged with their neighbors and where residents have access to the resources they need. For example, we met a lot of other families when we entered Lakeville Area Public Schools through ECFE programming. Both the adults and children in our family benefitted from the engagement of ECFE, Small Wonders Preschool, grade school, and middle school. Both of our teenagers continue their learning journeys, which we hope will lead to continued education and prosperous careers. It's not surprising to anyone that our schools can be leveraged to provide our community with many of the tools needed to thrive. That is why I support funding our public schools at the state level instead of deferring that responsibility inequitably to property taxes.

I am running to represent Senate District 57 at the Minnesota Legislature because I believe in the strength of our community. The strength of us. Together, we can build a safe, supported, and healthy community where people are engaged with their neighbors and where residents have access to the resources needed to support their families and continue to grow our thriving community.
